Please avoid my portfolio site (s3maphor3.org) »

FERDY CHRISTANT - DEC 3, 2008 (06:57:53 PM)

For those of you who have been following along, my portfolio site (s3maphor3.org) has been hacked recently. I thought I fixed the issue, but it keeps coming back. After some advise from a reader and a bit of Googling I found out that many customers of the hosting provider are having the same issue. My requests for support have been returned with blame only, therefore I have decided to move the site.

For now, this means that s3maphor3.org should be avoided, as it may be hacked again. I have initiated the domain transfer, so soon it will not be available at all. As soon as I have control over the domain again, I will put up a temporary page with the most important resources from the site.

On the longer term (a few weeks or months), I intend to turn this negative experience into a learning moment. I am considering rebuilding the site in a CMS like Joomla or Drupal. Take that, hackers and crappy provider!

comment » Should you go with Drupal, there is an awesome book now out on O'Reilly Safari (and soon on Amazon) called "Using Drupal."

You can get a free sample chapter from here:

http://www.doitwithdrupal.com/files/u3/UsingDrupalch09.pdf

The sample chapter site:

And a good review:

You'll be amazed what you can do without writing a single line of code :-) «

comment » Gerald,

Thanks. Right now I'm leaning towards Drupal, mostly because it is newer and takes web standards more serious. With zero experience under my belt, I'll soon dive in. Perhaps I will discover that I indeed need that book 18 «

comment » Andy,

Isn't Symfony mostly for building web apps, much like CakePHP and Code Igniter? I'm looking for a CMS to build a website, not a web app. Or, is Symfony also a CMS? «

comment » A lot of time in Drupal is spent with looking for the right module (similar to Eclipse when you look for a plug-in to help solve a particular problem). The book recommends modules in order to help save time.

As an alternative, you can always look for modules at http://drupalmodules.com . «

Of course the obvious choice is Expression Engine ;-)
