Jungledragon user profiles redesigned »

FERDY CHRISTANT - MAR 5, 2010 (02:24:03 PM)

In the first week of this year, I showed you a grand tour of JungleDragon's user profiles. That was already the third version. I got some great feedback at the time, but was still not fully happy with the design. So I made some tweaks. Here is the new user profile design (click to enlarge):

The design improvements:

  • A much clearer visual hierarchy, with the new persistent header it is much easier to see that you are browsing a profile when you click through the tabs
  • Better use of white space
  • A new last login indicator
  • A much improved two level stateful tab system
  • A much clearer way to access the profile edit screens

In this second screenshot, we're on the second tab of this profile:

As you can see, I have started work on image lists. Right below the images tab you can see the sort options and the display modes. Display modes I will support are:

  • Small (a grid of images as seen on screen, with more details when you hover them)
  • Medium (same grid, but with larger images)
  • Details (vertical list of large images with a lot of details on screen)
  • slideshow (One very large image with a row of thumbs below them)

On the screenshot you can see how the details of an image pop up when you hover them.

This part of JungleDragon has been one of the most difficult to get right. It feels right to me, but of course only time and real users can be the judge of that. I would really enjoy some feedback now though :)
