PIMB under surgery »

I'm having a bit of an issue with PIMB. PIMB relies heavily on an open source class called class.jabber.php. The class is essential, it abstracts the logic needed to communicate between XMMS servers, which is required for bots to receive and send instant messages. The problem is, the class is no longer maintained, publications about it have partly been lost and as a result, lots of people are making their own patches. It is hard to move forward with such an instable base to built on. Such is the risk of using open source libraries.
Since I'm stuck implementing an auto-subscribe feature, I am now looking at alternatives for this class, and I think I found one. I will soon start doing some basic tests with the new class. When they pass, I will place PIMB under surgery and replace it's core. This will obviously delay the next release, but think of it as taking one step back in order to make two steps forward.
