Deepzoom demo broken »

FERDY CHRISTANT - OCT 11, 2008 (02:54:45 PM)

Some of you may remember that a while ago I had a bit of a play with Silverlight and produced a Deepzoom demo of some of our Costa Rica travel pictures. It allowed users to fluently scroll and zoom into a grid of high-res pictures. Quite cool.

It stopped working, due to a new release of Silverlight. Despite knowing the software was in beta in the first place, it pains me that I have to update the demo (instead of just the client plugin) to get it to work again. What pains me even more is that I failed at that. It is supposed to be a simple upgrade in Visual Studio and then a redeployment. Well, it's not. So, now I'll just give up, as I can't be bothered to hunt down obscure or missing documentation, searching through the non-existing community or messing with the ever-crashing tools that take an hour to install. It get's worse: the email address they publish to help site owners upgrade bounces!

Grrrrr.....

comment » The real problem is the push Microsoft is doing to migrate from Flash to Silverlight thanks to the libraries for programming SL in Visual Studio.

I didn't want to mess with it as a first adoptor, I'll wait for 2.0 release if it will be adopted on large scale.... Thanks as usual Ferdy for your insights. «
